Anabolic Energy vs. Catabolic Energy

This is the day the Lord has made, so let's rejoice and be glad in it!

Here's a bit of a transparency post. I'm human just like all of you who happen to run into this post. There are days when I get up in the morning, ready to take on the day. There are also days when I don't feel like getting up at all. I recently just had a zoom call with someone, and she reminded me what anabolic energy and catabolic energy is.

For those who are not aware, I'll explain.

Anabolism means to promote and build while catabolism means to break down. Speaking life is called anabolism, while speaking death and destruction is the complete opposite; catabolism. As humans, we have our days of doing one or the other, and that can depend on circumstances, as well as how we shift our minds. The mindset is everything.

For those who do not know, I have what's called a "real job" that pays me just enough to pay rent, all of my bills, and put food on my table. I don't necessarily love my job. However, it's the vehicle that I have to do something else outside of work. I also know that I won't be there very long. Regardless of how long I keep the job, I know it's not permanent. No job is, nor is any job really secure. When you think about it, if you're reading this and gainfully employed, you could very well lose your job tomorrow, and they wouldn't even give you a reason why.

Now, back to my point.

The mindset is everything. I could look at this job I have, and I could choose to wake up every morning and shift my mind one way or another. I could either choose to wake up with positive energy and gratitude, ready to take on the day (anabolic energy), or I can wake up dreading to get out of bed that day (catabolic energy). How do you shift your mind?

What do you do the night before to get yourself mentally prepared for the next day? Which energy are you choosing?

Many of us hate getting up for work. We hate the idea of getting up early, rushing to get out of the house, driving through rush hour just to make it on time, and putting in 8-10 hours of "company time" for only so little money. We especially hate Mondays. Sound like your life?

If this is how you feel, what can you do to shift this? What can you do to shift your mindset from catabolic to anabolic? What are you grateful for? Are you grateful to wake up? Are you grateful for a roof over your head? How about food on your table? How about a working car?

Not everyday will be flowers and rainbows. You're still going to have trials. You're still going to encounter problems at work. You're still going to encounter problems at home. You may even encounter problems on your way to work or home. How will you react?

If there is anything I have learned, it's this: how you react to any given situation in your life is a choice. You decide what energy you put out, and you also decide what energy you receive. You decide whether or not you want to be grateful, even if it is only to get out of bed. You decide on what makes you happy, or what makes you miserable.

Understand this: if you are miserable, you lack gratitude. I don't care what your situation is. This applies to everyone, including myself (yes, feel free to check me on this... we ALL need accountability!).

Until next time, God bless.
